2025 NJ License Renewal

The New Jersey Real Estate Commission mandates that all real estate licensees complete 12 continuing education credit hours every two years to maintain their licenses. The 2025 Term is July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2025. CE completed after April 30 will be subject to a $200 late fee in addition to the license renewal fee. Any licensee who does not complete their credits by June 30, 2025, will not be able to renew their license and it will expire.

Key facts about CE:

  • You must complete 12 continuing education credit hours
  • Two hours must be completed in Ethics Topic Area
  • One hour must be completed in the Fair Housing Topic Area
  • One hour must be completed in the Agency Topic Area
  • Two hours must be completed in Core Topic Area
  • The six remaining hours may be completed in core, ethics, fair housing, agency or elective topics

Important Dates:

  • April 30, 2025: CE must be completed to avoid a $200 late fee
  • June 30, 2025: Licensees may submit CE credits, but are subject to a $200 late fee
  • July 1, 2025: New 2027 CE Term begins. All licensees who did not complete their CE requirement and renew their license may no longer practice real estate until their license is reinstated.

Agents who are dually licensed in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey:

Pennsylvania CE and renewal deadline is May 31, 2026. Those licensed in both states should seek providers that offer continuing education credit in both states for their coursework. Pennsylvania renewal requirements are:

  • Must complete 14 continuing education credit hours
  • Two hours must be in Fair Housing Topic Area
  • Three hours must be in Agency Relationships Topic Area
  • The nine remaining hours are elective and can include extended hours for the topics above (ie, 3.5 hour fair housing)
  • First-time renewals must take the post licensing coursework to include the 7-hour General Module and choice of 7-hour Residential Module or 7-hour Commercial Module.
